A case of Neurilemmoma of the Larnx

Abstract
Neurilemmoma is a benign encapsulated tumor which originates from any nerve covered with a Schwann cell sheath. Therefore, it can arise form the peripheral nerves, spinal nerve roots as well as all cranial nerves except the olfactory and optic
nerves
which do not possess such the sheaths. It is a characteristically benign, solitary and well-encapsulated mass. About 25% of neurilemmoma occurs in the head and neck region and the vestibular nerve is most frequently involved. But its occurrence
in
the
larynx is extremely rare.
Recently, the authors have experienced a case of neurilemmoma originated from the larynx in a 46 year old male patient. The tumor was successfully removed through external approach under general anesthesia and it was histologically proven as a
neurilemmoma. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:12, 1995)
